PO Box 31418 Phoenix, AZ 85046 --- ============================== PC PUBLISH - SHAREWARE VERSION ============================== This is the shareware version of PC Publish. You are free to use this version for 30 days. If you decide to keep using PC Publish after the 30 day trial please order the registered version. Ordering information, as well as an order form, are included. Shareware Screen: There is a brief shareware screen each time you begin the main PC Publish program PCP.EXE. In addition, a shareware screen appears at the conclusion of each compiled publish document. These shareware screens are not present when you receive the registered version. --- =================== SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS =================== PC Publish requires Windows version 3.1 or later (that includes Windows 95). A minimum of 386 computer with 4mb of extended memory is required. Recommended is at least a 486 with 8mb of memory and a monitor capable of displaying 256 colors (SVGA). All the required windows systems files for PC Publish will be installed into your windows\system directory. --- =============================== GETTING STARTED WITH PC PUBLISH =============================== To install PC Publish, insert the distribution disk in your floppy drive and type a:setup (or b:setup) from Windows Run menu. In Windows 3.1 this is found in your Program Manager File Menu. In Windows 95, click the Start button and then Run. Once the setup is started, simply follow the on-screen information. After installation, choose PC Publish from your Program Group, or from Programs in the Windows 95 Start Menu. If you are running Windows 95 and you are going to continue to use PC Publish frequently we suggest you move a copy to your Windows desktop for quick access. All the help and information for PC Publish is available from the Help menu in PC Publish. There is one sample document in the TEXT directory under the default PC Publish directory. This is named DEMO.TXM. You can load that file into PC Publish and even compile it. As a matter of fact, all the help files in the shareware version are actually PC Publish files and can be viewed directly in PC Publish or through the help menu. --- ==================================== LIMITATIONS OF THE SHAREWARE VERSION ==================================== Other than the Shareware reminder screens, there is very little difference between the shareware version and the registered version. The registered version does include several additional supplemental files which include: * Dozens of background watermark images * Dozens of other helpful publishing images such as - bullets - arrows - small word images designed to be inserted as a character. * Several Sound and Movie Files * True Type Font Files And of course, when you order the registered version, you will receive the very latest version available with any new features or modifications. You are not permitted to distribute compiled versions of documents made with PC Publish. We have left the compiler features active so that you may work with them, however all compiled files will have the shareware window on them. ========= UNINSTALL ========= This shareware version includes an uninstall feature. When you installed PC Publisher, an icon was created in your PC Publish program group named Uninstall. To remove PC Publish from your system, click on this icon. You will be asked to verify that you wish to uninstall. If you click yes, the program files installed by PC Publish will be removed from your hard drive and the icons deleted in the program group. =========== OTHER STUFF =========== Do not try to compile the help .txm files. Well, you could, but they will not copy the background images correctly. If you did not install PC Publish in the C:\PCPUB default directory, the DEMO.TXM file will not compile correctly. You can change this by resetting the hyperlinks to whatever directory you installed PC Publish. We will provide limited technical support for those trying to evaluate the PC Publish shareware version. All of the contact information is available at the top of this readme file.
